Resident Return Visa: Requirements and Travel Details
Once you have completed the first 5 years of your permanent residency, you will need a Resident Return Visa to travel outside Australia. If you are a permanent resident and do not plan to travel abroad, you do not require a Resident Return Visa. It can have travel facility of 5 years, one year of 3 months. The travel facility will depend on if you meet the residence requirements or not.
Resident Return Visa: Expired Facility Blocks Return
If your visa travel facility expires while you are outside Australia, you will not be able to return as a permanent resident without first obtaining a Resident Return Visa. Resident Return visa cannot be combined with family members and can be lodged from within and outside Australia.
Criteria: First, to be eligible for a Resident Return Visa, you must be either be:
- A current permanent resident of Australia
- A former Australian citizen who renounced or lost their citizenship
- A current permanent resident of Australia
Next, you must meet the residency requirements of either:
- Having lived in Australia for at least 730 days (2 years) of the last 5 years as a permanent visa holder OR
- Ability to show substantial ties that benefit Australia which can be your personal ties, employment ties, cultural ties and business ties.
- Your individual circumstances will determine the travel facility on your Resident Return Visa.
You will also require meeting the Character requirements to be granted this visa which means When you apply for a visa, you must:
- declare all criminal conduct in any country pending decision or if have been convicted.
- charged with that is awaiting legal action in any country
- A Police clearance may be requested as a part of meeting character requirements.
