Resident Return Visa: Requirements and Travel Details
Once you complete the first 5 years of your permanent residency, you will need a Resident Return Visas to travel outside Australia. If you do not plan to travel abroad, you do not need this visa. The travel facility can last for 5 years or one year with a 3-month period. The duration will depend on whether you meet the residence requirements.
Resident Return Visa: Expired Facility Blocks Return
If your travel facility expires while you are outside Australia, you cannot return as a permanent resident. In such cases, you will need to apply for a new Resident Return Visa. Please note that this visa cannot be combined with family members’ visas and can be lodged both inside and outside Australia. Criteria: First, to be eligible for a Resident Return Visas, you must be either be:
Permanent Residency Status: You must be a current permanent resident of Australia or a former Australian citizen who renounced or lost their citizenship.
Next, you must meet the residency requirements of either:
- You must have lived in Australia for at least 730 days (2 years) of the last 5 years as a permanent visa holder, OR
- You must be able to show substantial ties to Australia, which can include personal, employment, cultural, or business ties.
Your individual circumstances will determine the specific travel facility on your Resident Return Visa.
You will also require meeting the Character requirements to be granted this visa which means When you apply for a visa, you must:
- Declare all criminal conduct in any country, whether the decision is pending or if you have been convicted.
- Disclose any charges that are awaiting legal action in any country.
- A police clearance may be requested as part of meeting these character requirements.
