The Temporary Skills Shortage Visa Subclass 482
The Temporary Skill Shortage Visa SC 482 in Australia enables employers in Australia to sponsor highly skilled workers in case of a temporary shortage of skill. The family members can be included to the application as well.
This visa has three different streams: Short-term stream, Medium -term and Labour agreement. The visa stream will depend on the occupation of the visa applicant. If an occupation of the visa applicant is on STSOL list, then visa is to be applied under short term and medium term is to be used if the nominated occupation is listed under medium-term list. Labour Agreement is a stream used by Australian employers who have an agreement in place with the Australian government. The visa applicant need to be nominated to work in a specified occupation under the terms of a Labour Agreement
Stages for SC482 visa:
- For visa SC 482, the employer must be the approved sponsor to nominate overseas worker for an occupation to work on subclass 482 visa. All these three stage applications can be lodged at the same time. However, the visa application cannot be processed or granted unless the sponsorship and nomination applications by the employer both get approved.
SBS Standard Business Sponsorship:
- To become a Standard Business Sponsor, a business must:
- Be legally established and operating, either in or outside Australia.
- Have no adverse information.
- Demonstrate a commitment to employ local Labour and not engage in discriminatory recruitment practices.
- A Standard Business Sponsorship lasts for five years from the approval date. Businesses are advised to apply for renewal about two months before their current sponsorship ends. If there are changes in the business structure, the new entity must apply for sponsorship, and existing visa holders must be re-nominated.
Nomination:
- The TSS 482 nomination requirements include:
- The position must be an occupation on the 482 skilled Occupation list.
- To pay minimum annual salary meeting Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) which is A$70,000.
- Fulfil the Labour Market Testing (LMT) requirements: This requires the business to test local labour markets to demonstrate an effort to recruit local Australian workers before hiring an overseas worker for the required position.
- Nomination application requires a copy of the advertising material used to advertise the position. For most nominations, the position must have been advertised for at least four weeks within the four-month period immediately prior to lodging the nomination application.
Visa Application:
Experience:
- Have worked in your nominated occupation or a related field for at least 2 years. If an application is under the labour agreement, have had at least 2 years of work experience in the nominated occupation or a related field, unless varied by the terms of the labour agreement.
Skill Assessment:
- The visa applicants may be required for the skill assessment from the appropriate authority.
Nomination and Visa Application:
- The approved employer needs to nominate the applicant for the specified occupation. Be nominated to work in an occupation on the list of eligible medium and long-term skilled occupations if apply under medium term and be nominated to work in an occupation listed under STSOL for short term stream
- The nominated occupation must be the subject of a labour agreement between the Commonwealth and the nominator
Transition to Permanent Residency:
- you will be eligible to apply for the 186 Temporary Residence Transition after working in Australia for your employer-sponsor with a 482 visa for 2 years.
The Employer Nomination Scheme Visa Subclass 186
Employer Nomination Scheme Visa Subclass 186 is a Permanent residency visa for skilled workers where they are nominated by Australian employers to live and work in Australia permanently. To apply for this visa, most of the occupations require three years’ experience post-qualification. Moreover, you must be licensed, registered or a member of a professional body if it is mandatory where you intend to work in Australia. There is a age restriction of under 45 at the time of visa application unless your occupation is an exempted occupation.
Streams:
- Direct Entry Stream, TRT (Temporary Transition stream), Labour agreement stream.
Stages for SC 186 visa:
- For visa SC 186, the employer must be the approved sponsor to nominate overseas worker for an occupation to work on subclass 186 visa. The sponsorship application by the Sponsor needs to be approved first before lodging the application for next stage. The nomination application to be approved for the visa application to be considered and granted.
SBS Standard Business Sponsorship:
- To become a Standard Business Sponsor, a business must:
- Be legally established and operating, either in or outside Australia.
- Have no adverse information
- Demonstrate a commitment to employ local Labour and not engage in discriminatory recruitment practices.
- The business must offer a skilled full-time and ongoing position for at least 2 years without putting restriction to the employment contract for 2 years.
- The annual market salary rate to be paid if the worker will earn less than AUD250,000 annually.

To apply under TRT stream,
- the applicant must have held and worked for the sponsor for at least 2 years. The work experience can still be counted towards 2 years’ time in case of change of sponsor. Thiis stream also requires sponsorship by the employer along with the nomination.
For the labour agreement stream,
- the employer must have a labour agreement with the government.
Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa Subclass 494
Subclass 494 of Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa is a visa program that enables regional employers in Australia to sponsor overseas skilled workers to fill the gaps in the labour market. With this visa, you can live, work and study only in designated regional areas of Australia. You can apply for permanent residence after 3 years from the time your visa is granted. The position is to be on the list of eligible occupations.
This visa holders must commence work within 90 days of the visa being granted and must only work in your nominated occupation and only work for the nominating employer in regional Australia.
This visa has an age restriction of under 45 years of age. Position must be full time and likely be available for 5 years. This visa requires an Australian employer from regional area to have sponsorship and nomination approved before a visa applicant can be granted a visa.
